PURPOSE: The Manager of Ramp Operations is responsible for leading all below-the-wing operations at HVN in partnership with the Manager of Customer Service. This role ensures safe, compliant, and efficient ground handling while upholding Avelo’s standards for reliability and operational performance. The Manager oversees Ramp Supervisors and Crewmembers, driving a culture of accountability, safety, and teamwork.
This position reports directly to the Regional Manager and works closely with the Manager of Customer Service to ensure seamless coordination of HVN operations.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead all Ramp Operations at HVN and BDL, including aircraft loading/unloading, baggage handling, marshalling, towing, fueling coordination, provisioning, deicing, and GSE use.
- Provide mentorship, coaching, and training for Supervisors, developing their leadership skills, preparing them for promotion, and helping them progress in their careers with Avelo.
- Oversee training and compliance within Ramp Operations, ensuring all requirements are met, training is delivered to standard, and partnering with the Training Department to enhance and continuously improve programs.
- Maintain strict adherence to ground safety standards and ensure all Crewmembers are properly trained and certified.
- Monitor daily performance metrics, including ramp safety, baggage handling, and on-time departures, while providing reports to the Regional Manager.
- Develop staffing schedules, manage overtime, and ensure adequate coverage for daily flight schedules.
- Partner with OCC, Maintenance, and other internal departments during irregular operations to minimize delays and ensure safe recovery.
- Lead investigations and corrective actions related to ramp safety incidents, equipment damage, or operational irregularities.
- Partner with the Tech Ops team to oversee the maintenance and repair of GSE assets. Ensure GSE assets are appropriately allocated and work with the Airline Sourcing Team to procure additional pieces as required.
- Support station preparedness for emergencies, weather events, and irregular operations, ensuring team readiness.

Requirements
- Minimum of five (5) years of airline Ramp Operations or ground handling experience.
- Minimum of three (3) years of leadership or management experience in ramp or ground operations.
- High School diploma (or equivalent) required; Bachelor’s degree in aviation management, operations management, or related field highly desired.
- Strong knowledge of ramp operations, GSE maintenance, fueling, and winter operations/deicing.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain and maintain airport-issued ID badges.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to thrive in a high-stress, fast-paced environment and work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

- Demonstrated ability to lead teams through change and foster a strong safety culture.
- Experience with multi-station responsibilities or complex operational environments.
- Proven track record of improving ramp efficiency, safety performance, and operational reliability.
KEY METRICS FOR SUCCESS:
- Achieve on-time performance (D:0 / A:14) and completion factor goals for HVN and BDL.
- Maintain ground safety standards with zero preventable incidents or regulatory violations.
- Keep mishandled baggage rate (MBR) within target thresholds.
- Ensure 100 compliance with required training, certifications, fueling, GSE maintenance, and deicing programs.
- Drive high Crewmember engagement, retention, and accountability.
May perform other responsibilities as assigned. Responsibilities and duties may change when circumstances dictate. (e.g., emergencies, changes in workload, etc.)
