By working closely with U.S, state and local and foreign governments and coordinating grassroots advocacy efforts, our Global Government Affairs & Environmental team represents United on regulatory, public policy and legislative issues. This team advocates every day for our airline, our employees, and the millions of customers we serve all around the globe.
Job overview and responsibilities
- Monitor market, industry, and regulatory developments to surface strategic opportunities for engagement and influence.
- Analyze trends, competitor activity, and external signals to inform executive decision-making.
- Based on market insights and stakeholder consultation, establish an up to date planner of relevant industry, or other national and international, events that may be aligned with enterprise strategic drivers.
- Develop insights, briefs, presentations and messaging to support strategic engagement with external stakeholders.
- Partner closely with internal stakeholders within, but not limited to, Government Affairs, Regulatory Affairs, and Communications for aligned external positioning.
- Coordinate participation in relevant industry events, forums, and roundtables to enhance visibility and thought leadership.
- Track potential emerging issues and provide early-warning intelligence to leadership. Contributes to enterprise readiness and reputation positioning.
- Manage relationships with vendors supporting engagement activities and ensure tools are used effectively across Government Affairs.
QualificationsWhat’s needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):
- Bachelors degree in Business, Government Relations or related field
- 4+ years of government or business experience
- Knowledge of legislative/political environment to help position United externally among third parties, think tanks, trade associations, unions, universities and philanthropic interests
- Strong strategic thinking, critical thinking, prioritization, and problem-solving skills
- Conduct quick analysis, sort out the important information and work under tight deadlines
- Excellent PowerPoint, research written and oral presentation skills
- Build relationships and communicate at all levels of the organization and cross-function/platform; team player
- Manage multiple projects with multiple stakeholders
- Results-oriented and collaborative
- Ability to simplify complexity for senior leaders
- Collaborative working style with influence, not authority
- Comfort operating in a dynamic, highly visible environment
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
- Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification
- Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position
- This role is based in Washington D.C. and follows a hybrid schedule, with four days per week in the office.
The base pay range for this role is $102,220.00 to $133,194.00.
The base salary range/hourly rate listed is dependent on job-related, factors such as experience, education, and skills. This position is also eligible for bonus and/or long-term incentive compensation awards.
