What You Will Do *

The Associate Manager – Materials Engineering will lead a team of engineers supporting Materials & Processes (M&P) activities across product lines. This role combines strong technical expertise with people leadership, driving material selection, qualification, process development, and program execution to support high-reliability aerospace materials.

  • Drive program execution by managing KPIs, schedules, cost targets, and technical deliverables.
  • Allocate resources, assign work and ensure effective workforce planning.
  • Ensure continuous skill development and effective resource management to support project execution, mentor and coach team members, supporting their technical and professional development upholding RTX values.
  • Demonstrate strategic thinking by evaluating multiple solutions, fostering a strong team culture, and conducting meaningful performance reviews.
  • Build and maintain strong professional relationships with cross-functional counterparts to enable effective collaboration and alignment.
  • Set clear, measurable goals for the team and provide constructive feedback to drive performance improvement and professional growth.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable aviation industry standards and safety regulations.
  • Lead material selection, qualification, and validation for aerospace applications, including polymers, composites, coatings, and adhesives.
  • Drive process development initiatives such as heat sealing, RF welding, bonding, and surface treatments & Coatings.
  • Provide technical oversight on failure analysis, root cause investigations, and corrective actions.
  • Establish and maintain material and process specifications aligned with aerospace standards and certification requirements.
  • Support New Product Introduction (NPI), sustaining engineering, and cost optimization initiatives.
  • Manage material obsolescence and qualification of alternate materials.
  • Balance responsibilities with approximately 75 technical contribution and 25 managerial duties.

Qualifications You Must Have *

  • Master’s degree in Materials Science, Polymer Science, Plastics Technology, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in materials engineering, preferably in aerospace.
  • Hands-on experience with non-metallic materials and related manufacturing processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical teams and manage project execution.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work independently while mentoring and guiding team members.
  • Qualifications We Prefer
  • Experience in Aerospace System, particularly within materials and process engineering.
  • Knowledge of aerospace materials standards (ASTM, ISO, MIL) and certification.
  • Experience in supplier management, work transfer, and global collaboration.
  • Understanding of engineering cost estimation, scheduling, and risk management.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
