2026 Internship - System Safety Engineer

JOB SUMMARY:
System Safety Engineers are an integral part of cross-functional Engineering teams, assisting with the implementation of Systems Engineering, Development Assurance, and System Safety processes of Textron Aviation Business Jets, Turboprops, and Single Engine aircraft systems in support of aircraft type certification. Candidates will assist systems design teams with these processes as related to aspects of new product design and certification for domestic and foreign certification activities.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist with development of System Safety Reports including Aircraft and System Functional Hazard Assessments, Aircraft and System-level Safety Assessments, Common Mode Analysis, Particular Risk Analysis and Zonal Safety Analysis.
Assist with establishment of Systems Engineering process planning and execute to those plans.
Apply systems engineering methodology, tools, and techniques to support the design, manufacture, and test of aircraft systems.
Ensure that the quality, accuracy, and integrity of system and safety life cycle deliverables comply with standards and plans.
Assist as needed with preparation of certification plans, ground and flight test plans, certification reports, and other documents.
Qualifications
EDUCATION:
Pursuing a Bachelor of Science Degree in:
Aerospace Engineering
Mechanical Engineering
Electrical Engineering
Other related STEM field
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Experience with electronic drafting tools such as CATIA V5 and VPM is helpful
Professional and diplomatic demeanor
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Time management skills are required to work multiple concurrent projects of various size and scope
This position requires use of information which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and/or the Export Administration Regulations (EAR)., Non-U.S. persons selected must meet eligibility requirements for access to export-restricted information. , The ITAR/EAR defines a U.S. person as a U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. Green Card Holder), Political Asylee, or Refugee.
Applicants must be authorized to work lawfully in the U.S. for Textron Aviation at the time of making application, and visa sponsorship is not available for this position, including for F-1 students and J-1 exchange visitors who will need employment sponsorship.
Summer internships are 40 hours per week typically from late-May to early-August lasting 10 weeks.
Candidates must be able to work onsite for the entirety of the internship program unless approved otherwise by the hiring manager.
